Just like we did with Azuki, let’s start with the characters and traits…

Every NFT comes from one of 7 worlds, each based on skin tone.

Some worlds are rarer than others.
You get access to different airdrops depending on which world your NFT is from.
I’ll explain more later.

Artist Yam Karkai took extra care to make the traits inclusive. For example, the algorithm couldn’t generate afro hair with blue eyes which could be seen as appropriation.

Artdrops
Remember the different worlds?
You get a different ‘art drop’ every month depending on which world your NFT is from.
If you own a Night Realm WoW (the rarest world), you recently got a piece of artwork airdopped for free by artist Camila Nogueira.
Many of the Night Realm artdrops are worth 0.5E each now.

Going mainstream
World of Women is one of the few NFT projects that broke out beyond the crypto inner circle.
Just look who’s holding one:
Reese Witherspoon
Shonda Rimes
Eva Longoria
Liam Payne
Selby Drummond (Bumble’s chief brand officer)
Napheesa Collier (Olympic gold medalist)
It reached way beyond the usual crypto audience and brought new people into the space.
More importantly, it's turning them into crypto advocates...
Reese Whitherspoon is now doing regular Twitter Spaces and evangelising about NFTs and crypto for artists.
This would be unthinkable 18 months ago.
How did they reach a new audience?
It's very rare for any project to break out of the 'crypto club' so how did they do it?
By flipping every major stereotype…
“Crypto is a boys club”
Crypto and NFTs has an association with ‘crypto bros’ and ‘NFT bros’
And there's some fairness to this. Only 5% of NFT sales last year went to female artists according to one report.
World of Women flipped this stereotype and opened the door for a whole new audience.
“The rich get richer”
Crypto is often seen as a world of greed that doesn't benefit everyone. Where only the rich get richer.
World of Women flipped this stereotype with a huge focus on philanthropy.
They put 15% of all initial sales into a fund to reinvest in other artists.
They have donated at least $250k to charities so far.
World of Women proved that crypto can be a powerful tool for giving back.
“Crypto is bad for the environment”
We all know this is the go-to critique of crypto and NFTs.
World of Women flipped this narrative by curating a carbon net-negative NFT auction to raise money for three different climate charities.
They hired Inna Modja, CEO of Code Green (a climate non-profit), to be the head of philanthropy.
Inclusivity
World of Women openly promotes diversity and inclusion.
It creates a safe space for anyone that was intrigued but felt intimidated by the existing crypto culture.
The Discord is full of educational resources and friendly help for newcomers.
This is how we onboard the next million people. With projects like this.
The World of Women Team
The core co-founders are:
Yam Karkai
Yam is an established NFT artist beyond WoW. Check out some of her 1/1s.
Major collectors
We've covered the celebrities, but World of Women is also in the wallets of most major collectors and many crypto natives.
Cozomo de' Medici (holds WoW and 1/1s)
Pranksy
Gary Vee
Zeneca_33
Camila Russo
Elena Brower
Taking it to the next level
World of Women recently hired Guy Oseary to manage the project.
He's known for working with Eminem, RHCP, Madonna, U2…
And Bored Ape Yacht Club.
Once he started working with BAYC, the project went stratospheric, surpassing CryptoPunks.
The man has a golden touch and knows to break things to the mainstream world.
Are you ready to see World of Women in movies, TV, music, gaming, merch? It’s all coming.
Galaxy of Women
Like most pfp projects, World of Women are now working on the next drop:
Galaxy of Women.
Here’s what we know so far:
It will be a larger collection.
At a lower price point for accessibility.
Could be an augmented reality game??
This is the next step for onboarding potentially millions of new people.
Community involvement
If you hold a WoW NFT, you can submit proposals and vote on governance issues.
It's the World of Women DAO (or DAWoW).
This is a relatively new experiment, but the community has already made a few collective decisions, including...
Next stop: Christie's
Christie’s will auction off a rare WoW in March.
The community chose which WoW to auction by voting through the DAWoW.
Art collabs and fund
A lot of projects do collaborations with other artists… but this is next level.
The WoW fund owns photography and artwork from legends like Cath Simmard, Drift and Izzakko. They support smaller creators and offer community grants.
They prioritise giving back to the NFT community.
What do you own? (IP and copyright)
This one is super interesting.
You get full IP rights to your WoW.
You can use it to monetise and commercialise as much as you like.
And even better...
You get 50% of any royalties if the WoW team uses your NFT for commercial reasons.
That last part is generous. I haven't seen another team explicitly say this yet. And it goes to show that the team cares about giving back to the community.
Final thoughts
I've been in crypto for four years and it's VERY RARE to see any project break out beyond the crypto inner-circle.
We don't always have best image for newcomers: scams, rugs, crypto bros, extreme wealth etc. Even if it's not always true, it's how we are often perceived.
Projects like World of Women are breaking the stereotypes. They make the space more inclusive, more welcoming.
On top of that, they're thoughtful. They give back to the community and the NFT space.
We need more projects like this.
How to spot good projects in this market?
On a side note, we are in a very frothy point of the NFT cycle where it's difficult to see true value. Projects are getting greedy with mint-prices, and scams are getting more and more complex.
World of Women reminds us to slow down and think about what we're truly building here. Look for projects that support artists. Look for teams that give back to the community and don't just enrich themselves. Look for projects with a long-term vision.
It might feel like everything is moving at the speed of light, but we're here for the next decade and beyond. Don't get sucked in by fomo. Identify the long-term players and stick with them.
Thanks for reading!
